Community Strength and Balance

WellSouth is the Lead Agency for the Live Stronger for Longer Programme in the Southern District. Our role is to coordinate and grow access to community group strength and balance classes in the region.

Pick the Tick

We use the 9 criteria outlined by ACC to make sure approved classes meet nationally agreed standards of delivering safe and effective exercise classes for you. So look out for the tick!

Community strength and balance classes are a great opportunity to complete regular exercise while socialising and having fun with like-minded people in your community.

All New Zealanders who are 65+ and at risk of falling, or have a history of falling, should give it a go.

Further details about the programme are available from Live Stronger for Longer, including a map to find a class near you.

If you run an exercise class for older people, or have been thinking of starting, and would like to be part of a national network helping to reduce the incidence and severity of falls and fractures, we’d like to hear from you, email us bwellfallsandfractureteam@wellsouth.org.nz
